Funding the Renovation
In February 2015, construction began to completely renovate the Illinois Governor’s Mansion, funded entirely with private dollars. While the renovation focused on structural repairs and construction updates, it was also an opportunity to focus on the visitor experience, truly making the Mansion the People’s House for Illinois residents. Complete with dedicated art spaces, expanded programming, full accessibility for visitors and a focus on Illinois’ rich history, the Illinois Governor’s Mansion is open seven days a week for visitors to learn from.
The Governor’s Mansion renovation project was completed without taxpayer dollars. The Illinois Governor’s Mansion Association set a goal to raise $15 million in private funds to complete the project.
The Board of Directors of the Association extends its sincere thanks to the donors, in-kind sponsors, and partners who made this project a reality. Their contributions to this project are truly unmatched, and their dedication to the Illinois Governor’s Mansion will make it a showcase for art, education, and history in Illinois.
